Testing, Testing.....

This post is a test. Okay, so maybe it's nothing clever and if you've come here from my other blogs, you're thinking "What gives? This is the best you can do for your maiden post?"

Sadly, tonight it is. This is the best I can do. I've spent half the day getting this blog set up. First I had to over think the name and the url, then I moved on to fretting about losing readers. Later, I obsessed over creating the header, futzed incessantly with the layout and finished up by reorganizing my rss feeds (of which I have an obscene amount - no wonder I don't have time to do anything else) so that I could have a manageable blog roll.

And let us not forget that I also had to take the occasional cookie break (the damn things are almost gone, thank goodness), a pee break now and then and I even stopped a couple of times so that I could go practice guitar for Rock Band. Hey - I finally got 98% on the medium setting on R.E.M.'s Orange Crush. I swear just now when I typed that, I could feel my vagina turn into a penis. And a very nice one at that.

"And you're starting off your posts talking about penises and vaginas? What kind of place is this?" I can hear you wondering right now.

Relax. I'm using the anatomically-correct terms. I didn't say that I could feel my hair-pie transform into a trouser snake, did I? No. See - I'm going to do this thing right. Besides, I wasn't speaking of those body parts in a sexual context anyway. In fact, I was making a rude sexist statement implying that only males can enjoy a game like Rock Band. Maybe I'd better drop that whole thread right there.

So anyway, like an inept hostess, I'm finally getting around to welcoming you in the sixth paragraph. Welcome. This is the new place. I hope you'll like it. I noted that some of you seemed concerned that I was going away or upset or struggling in some way. Au contraire. Things are good. Even with all the upheaval and uncertainty of things around here, I am generally in a happy place. Without the aid of prescription drugs. I needed to cut back on my online time because I was feeling out of balance and realized that something had to give. I don't want to stop reading you guys and leaving my goofy comments and I don't want to quit writing either so what am I to do?

Prioritize, organize and focus. One blog where I'll write as Lisa. There's another place where I might make an occasional appearance as my evil twin. I'm still deadly, Utah. Don't you worry.

In my downtime, I will actually read those books I check out of the library, tickle MathMan's fancy when he least expects it, laugh with The Spawn, shreik some thrash metal, bury my face in some cat's sweet belly and perfect my faux British accent. Sometimes all at the same time. Lord - doesn't that make you just want to free up all your time to do such exciting things?

So now that you're here, please make yourself at home. I've set out some refreshments and put away the breakables. Grab the new rss feed, so you can find your way back easily. And thank you for stopping by.

Because I'm glad you're here, that's why.

Politits and DCup were absolutely, solid gold!

Hrumph, I'll have to start using my real name, is that what I am to learn here?

Many of us have been reading you for awhile now and know you by many names. Whatever you go by and wherever you go on teh intertubes, it's obvious we'll follow you. Hmmm, that actually sounds kind of creepy. ;)

  9. Well, I'm dreadfully sorry to have missed out on DCups and Politits, but I am glad to have found your site. Sounds like it will be great reading.

I know what a pain in the ass getting up a new site is, as I just finished mine (and actually it's not done yet. I need 3 columns!).

But anyway, happy new year. Come visit.

  11. It's alot of work setting up a new blog. Had to do that myself when I did something stupid and lost my first blog. I like the new place. The butterfly goddess is gorgeous.

I'm going to attempt to set up quickbooks for the business today. Wish me luck!

Enjoy that nice weather you have down there. We are expecting another big storm tonight with 4-8 more inches of snow. There goes my short lived freedom.

    Have a nice Sunday.

  13. I am looking forward to your new, improved, one self. It's funny, becuase I just restarted the incessant memoir and after writing about "voice" for a while, and listing all of the different reactions the varying potential readers could have, I realized there was no possible way I could please them all with anything, but my honest self.

  14. Surely there is a place that exists between Star Power and cat puke. Purgatory?
I might have directions to there if you need.
I am a denizen of it now.

  28. She is Lisa. And it is really good.

    Really good.

  29. can I just say I am so thrilled to see lisa!

you have a fabulous talent for writing about myriad of subjects in a way that makes me want to sit down and *read*...restricting your talent to JUST one subject is, JUST that, restrictive ... you need a bigger, more gorgeous, chandelier embellished and open stage on which to be who you are and so here *you* are..

I am thrilled to see you retired the bra size ... lisa is so much more elegant.... and besides, with all the weight dropping off again, after the cookies are gone, you won't be that lush size anymore - and aren't we happy about that? ! I thought so!

so welcome to your new home, I brought a few packs of snowballs, those trashy, delicious balls of chocolate cake covered in marshmallow the most lovely, garish pink anyone could find and then covered AGAIN in cocoanut... is there anything better...

oh, here's some green tea(don't make that face)...just to calm you down a little from the tedium of setting all this up ..and to balance your blood sugar - did you know that?

kisses and welcome home hugs ~

    XO

  35. Hi-I like your new place! I will switch my follower thing for your new place!

  36. Yeah, what everyone else said before me. I got you rolled and look forward to reading you. I can tell you that when I read the feed "this blog is closed" on both Politits and Unglued I got such a feeling of sadness. Suddenly I thought you were going away and I couldn't think of what could replace you and your posts in my world. Luckily, I went over to investigate and found a new, improved That's Why blog instead and my heart lifted back up again! Seriously lady, lots of people LOVE ya!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wonderful...I can't wait to see what you do here in the new digs... I have to admit I will miss Politits and the DCup moniker, but I look forward to the new you...all rolled into one. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I understand the need to simplify and my version of that is to keep you blogrolled as dcup with the new url in the background. Keep up the good work and keep smiling :-)

    ReplyDelete
  39. You will always be Poltits to me, but I understand the metamorphosis completely. And wherever this new blog takes, I look forward to coming along for the ride!

  44. You - be you - and you'll be fine. Don't know - all the changes and feelings with them, - but y'er cool - and are a great ally/friend.

You share so much - and are good at both your writing and just your "living" and making it through some of the tough stuff with your head high.

    Thanks for being you!

  45. I'm glad your here, I hate to be this way, but since the news last night, you know, the emailed question, the emailed answer, I can't stop crying.

But thank you for that sweet link. I now know I do indeed exist, cause Lisa says so.

  46. Cool new digs, DCup! What's wrong with the maiden post?? I chuckled and snickered and snorted and smiled through the whole thing!

    Good for you, luv!

When do you record your British accent and post it so we can rate you? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Woohoo! New blogs all around. I like the new digs.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Lisa - welcome out from behind the aliases... They were very clever aliases, and we enjoyed them a lot, but it will be a bit easier on us, too, to catch up on ALL of our Lisa related reading in just one place.

And I'm sure all the best parts of your anatomy are still in place and probably even improving. Your maiden post made it sound that way - I think...

Going to go change my blogroll, now...

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm pretty sure that "Lisa" will be able to encompass all that is you. Wink.

Consolidation is good. Thanks for being one of new X-friends.

    xx, Bee

  50. I hope you know that I will now read everything you write on this new blog in a faux British accent ( which is still way more convincing than the fake American ones in some of the Poirot episodes).

  51. Faux British Accent?! Me too!

Ang hates it, says it sounds like crap.

...So what if my British accent comes from Guy Ritchie films...

  52. Hi Lisa, congratulations on the new place! I love the decor and I feel right at home already.

Updated my feed list with your new digs! Best wishes for having more time to live your real life!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Lisa, I'm grabbing a cookie, to help you get rid of them, and enjoying your new home.
    Thanks for sharing.

  56. Hey Lisa - I think it's fantastic that you're blogging as you. I like noms de blog as much as the next guy - they're a fun way to explore another side of yourself, and sometimes anonymity is really important - imperative, even. But I think that writing under your real name means that you are willing to completely own what you write.

BTW, this is not meant in any way to denigrate those who use a nom de blog - it's a traditional part of blogging, and once you create an identity with your handle, it's hard to shake.

I have always used my own name as a blogger, but then again I do not blog as intimately as you do. My hat is off to you, girlfriend! I'll update my 'roll. xoxoA

  57. February 2, 1922 edition of Life Magazine, "The Flapper" by Frank X. Leyendecker...

1920s fashion for women was characterized by the fashions worn by the flappers. Flapper fashion was an androgynous style of dress that made the flapper woman look young and boyish. Flapper hairstyles started out with the short "bob" and eventually progressed to the even shorter "Eaton" or "shingle" in which the hair was slicked down and curled around to cover the ears. The bust was flattened with tightly wound cloth, and flapper dresses were straight and loose, often leaving the arms bare and with the waistline slung low. As the Roaring Twenties progressed, the hemline rose to the knee, and by the end of the decade knees were being exposed as the flapper spun herself around the dance floor to the jazz of the Twenties in the scandalous dance styles of the Charleston, the Shimmy, and the Black Bottom. To top it all off, the flappers took to wearing makeup, which up to this time, had only been worn by actresses and prostitutes!

Despite all the scandal associated with the flappers, eventually even "respectable" women followed their lead, albeit in a less "out-there" manner. Flapper fashion contributed in some way to the liberation of women in that they abandoned the corset and popularized short hair for women. Flapper fashion and style was imitated everywhere, not just by actresses, but even by Betty Boop and Minnie Mouse!

  61. Hi Lisa, I will update my blogroll at once!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I swear! I think you live in a strange land that has 48-hour days! I am too frigging busy (lazy) to do anything original with my blog "decor." I certainly admire your new digs here, but will miss the old ones.
I will follow you anywhere, Mz. Lisa.

  63. Roger that. Change made to the blogroll, aye.

(An alternate title could have been "Because I Said So," which I heard a lot while growing up.)

  64. Shit, one move to new digs (not the last one this year, unfortunately) and you already have more comments than I've already accumulated all fucking year.

Can't understand why Politits is suddenly radioactive and uninhabitable but I'm not one to talk, I guess.

The great thing about moving on the Internet is that, no matter where you go, you're still just a mouse click away.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Allow me to be the 72nd person to comment. Damn, I've got to do the same as you and charge a dollar to comment; I'd be on easy street. I'm in the same boat as jurassicpork.

At the same time, it has been fun to read the many comments of your friends/faithful/harem/readers; they all have such wonderful things to say.

  66. Nice new digs, Lisa. And any maiden post that includes the words penis and vagina is just fine by me. ;)

  67. Love the new place!
