Care and Feeding

Photo: Lisa Golden
Thanks to those of you who have donated toward the care and feeding of Kitty Noir. You're wonderful. So far KN has no new home, but he has found a place on top of the antique radio where he likes to sleep. His presences is still causing a stir, but we've been through this before. Eventually, everyone settles into a timeshare routine and we move on.

I'm taking the day off from writing here so that I can work on my manuscript and catch up on some reading. Now I have to decide which book to read today because I've started two at the same time. Bad habit, I know.

Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury or The Beginners by Rebecca Wolff.

What are you reading?

  1. Glad you got help with kittah. I'm reading Atlas Shrugged in the tub these days. Know thy enemy as they say. Also have Fountainhead, which I understand actually is a good book. So far, enjoying it. But I definitely see her bent in AS from the beginning.

  2. I spent the better part of my night trying to convince my husband that we should adopt Kitty Noir. He looked at me like I was insane...I'm still trying.

I'm reading Juliet, Naked and it's a lovely summer jaunt.

  4. I've read Dandelion Wine and loved it. The other I don't know but I'm sure you'll make a good choice and the other is always there for next time.

The picture is wonderful. I hope the cats aren't all fighting over who's going to sit on your lap.

  5. Gorgeous photos, by the way! I've been reading To Kill a Mockingbird for, what feels like, the last 6 months. What's funny is that I thought I hadn't read it. Turns out I did because I remember distinct moments. Still, I wouldn't be able to tell you how it ends. Also, a few pages left of Jamaica Kincaid's Annie John and am scooting over to the library now to pick up Housekeeping Where the god of love hangs out and Marrying the Mistress, both having been recommended to Averil on her blog the other day. I love eavesdropping.

  6. I always read 2-3 books at the same time. Currently I'm reading The Help, Drinking, A Love Story and Bossypants.

  7. I made the mistake of starting the world's most boring biography -- Herbert Hoover: A Public Life. Reading it is like doing penance for unspecified sins. Hoover led an exciting life -- mining in China, relief work in Europe during WWI, global travel -- and yet his biographer makes it all about as interesting as reading IRS manuals.

Hoover, incidentally, is coming across as being much farther to the left ideologically than our current President. How's that for a depressing thought?

  8. I share your bad habit. I am in the middle of The Mountain of Light, Nation (by Terry Pratchett), The Complete Paintings of Vincent Van Gogh, and The Creators (by Daniel Boorstin).

    Nice photo!

  9. I'm reading Einstein's Refrigerator [Steve Silverman], A Praying Life [Paul Miller] and Death: Confronting the Reality [William E. Phipps].

My husband just gave me a Groupon ticket for a used bookstore. I think I may know why...

  10. Hey there still cutting grass? I'm reading Having Cried Wolf by Gretchen Shirm which is calm and without strife whereas Henry Miller's Opus Pistorum (recommended by a repressed male) was just too male-adorned. How is Rebecca Wolff?

  11. I keep going over The Dead Zone, because I'm writing yet another semi-derivative novel along those lines.

  12. I read Dandelion Wine as a teenager - loved it and all of Bradbury's books. They are almost like poetry more than prose...

Right now I'm reading "Woodswoman" by Anne LaBastille, who recently died and I read her obituary(which is what inspired me to buy her book; I often learn about people from their obituaries and end up reading their books). She lived in the Adirondacks in a remote cabin so it appealed to me.
