30 Day Photography Challenge: C'est Moi

While a lot of my writing energy has to be directed to my never-ending manuscript tweaks and a couple of side projects, I'm going to do this to help stretch my creativity. It's also going to give me something to blog about because the state of the world has reduced to me shouting expletives at felines and breaking things.

So while I stand by feeling helpless as the American Middle Class circles the drain, I'm going to fiddle. With my camera.

Starting today.

1. Self portrait. Of course.

I went through a few variations on this. As much as it sickens me to say so, I am my favorite subject because 1) I'm a vain, vain woman and I don't trust anyone else to edit out the fat, wrinkles, and extra chinnery; and 2) I don't have to ask anyone's permission to portray me however I see fit. Those two items are not mutually exclusive.

And of course I couldn't decide which one to use.

Yes, I'm really doing this. What? You've posted your cleavage, you can't seriously expect us to believe the shy act now.

I could use a haircut.

Point, close eyes, shoot. Man, do I have my father's nose.

Feeling ridiculous. Or at least pretending to be.

Saturated.

And sepia-ed.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the people who created digital photo editing. May all your wishes come true.

Love,

Lisa

P.S. Day 2 is what you wore today. Expect a shot of some cat dressed in my clothes. Because the day you get a full body shot of me? The only way it's tomorrow is like that quote - it never comes.

P.S.S. If any of you decide to do this, please let me know so I can link to you. Thanks. Also, if your self portrait looks better than mine, I'll be by with my Sharpies. You'll look fabulous with a devil beard or a Poirot mustache. And don't let anyone tell you any differently.

UPDATED: I have my first partner in crime. Geoffrey from What's Left in the Church has his Day 1 post up now. Thanks, G!

O is joining the fun, too!

  2. I love all the shots. I am a terrible photo study, unlike my wife and daughters, with whom any camera has an instant love-affair, so I'm more than a bit nervous about the whole self-protraiture thingy. But, I will give it my best shot. . .

  3. Lovely shots. You look great, no haircut needed.

  4. Uh oh, now the FBI, CIA, NSA, PTA, SOS, DHS, NBA, NRA, 4-H, NFL, OPEC, IBM, USN, SMERSH, KAOS, SPECTRE and the BSA ... all know what you look like.

You must be careful! Beware of shadowy characters following you wherever you go. Do not, I repeat, do not go any where near black SUVs (or helicopters) with darkened windows.

  5. What a great way to ignore the daily deluge of horrible news and even more horrible GOP candidates! Love the self-portraits of you! And yes, your hair looks great.

  6. I really enjoy the "pretending to be ridiculous" one.

And I'm looking forward to Day 19: Something 0range, Day 10: Childhood memory, and Day 8: A bad habit. :)

  7. LOVE this, LIsa! I love the idea and the self-portraits themselves. 2 is a stunner, but the others also have so much to say. Can't wait to see your other treasures.

Swanky idea in theory, but some are just a wee bit too revealy for my tastes.

What if we already have a devil beard?

  12. This may well be the coolest blog idea I've ever read.

I am way too technologically challenged to attempt it myself.

But, oh Lord, do I look forward to your Bad Habit photo. My imagination runs wild...

  13. I love the saturated photo. The colors are just so brilliant. I really have to figure out how to do that.
Beautiful pictures. It's amazing you took them yourself.

  15. Day 21. Bring it on. (remembering my mathematical formula)

I love all the pix and you rock that silver hair just like Bobbi.

  16. I may do this. . . the self portrait aspect is a bit off-putting, though. I don't want technology stealing my soul even when I'm the one aiming the device.

I still say you should look into doing a Zazzle shop (or something similar) to sell some of your photos -- you are good with a camera.

  17. So glad you didn't post the private parts. There are children in the room.
I'd try it myself but for two reasons. First don't have digital camera (anybody got some flash powder?) (What da ya mean you don't know what flash powder is?)
And two the sunset season is over here in the Northwest.

  18. I love the self-portraits. You grow more beautiful all the time.
