They call him Mister President

This is the only thing I can muster in these long days of short daylight, an extra workload while I fill in for a vacancy, despair over the suffering of people around the world, inefficiently wishing away a Nor'easter that's punishing the already punished, and a growing deficit of patience for stupidity.

Congratulations Citizens of the United States on voting for the expansion of freedoms.

With love and lots of yawning,

Lisa

P.S. Let's all agree that we're going to call him PRESIDENT Obama for the next four years, motherfuckers.

P.S.S. Please don't tell my mother I used the word motherfucker. She still possesses the ability to shame me mercilessly.

    1. Pleased is a good word, Brian. And you're right. My mother probably felt me writing the word.

  2. This is such amazingly wonderful news--I've been breathing into a bag for a week now.

  3. One has to wonder:
How are you going to sell immigrant bashing to Latino's?
    Racism to blacks?
    Homophobia to gays?
    Rape to women?

Let's hope that two more years of Republican obstructionism in Congress will be enough to convince most voters that the GOP is just too stupid to exist. Wouldn't it be wonderful if one day we could look back on the early years of the 21st century as a time when America got rid of its obsession with greed?

  4. If you're Jan Brewer, you probably still call him Obama. Otherwise people, show the respect owed the man AND the office. That would be Mr. Obama or President Obama. Period. Nothing else will do.

That goes for you, too, news anchors. You're the worst.

    Thank you.

    1. Teri, that has annoyed the crap out of me, how news anchors and pundits never call him President Obama. I get it that you don't want to say it every time, but at least the first time they reference him, they should at least honor his office and his holding of it.

  5. I hope that the gay marriage issue goes federal in the next four years. Would love to see the law protect civil rights for LGBTQ folks, regardless of the idiotic state amendments that have been thrown up recently. It's about time all citizens had equal protection under the law.

Would also love to see an expansion of amnesty programs for illegals who have been in the country for years and those who grew up here, undocumented.

    1. Summer - I hope we're seeing the tail end of the institutionalized inequalities like bans on gay marriage. It feels like a movement now.

And I think that both political parties ignore the need for real immigration reform at their peril.

  6. Time to offer my sincere congratulations to your side on a well-run campaign. Now I know how you all felt in 2004.

Here's hoping things change (where have I heard that before?!?), a little more cooperation on both sides, but not holding my breath. Mostly I'm hoping my side learns from this, and moderates a bit accordingly (certainly not as much as you would like, but there are certainly areas where some accommodations can be made.

Now we'll get to see Pres. Obama's plans in action, rather than just in theory...I'm hoping for the best, for all of us. But if not, don't count us out just yet....;)

    1. Jonah, we would never count you out. What would the fun of that be?

Thank you for your gracious response, especially in light of my rare use of the word m*&^)#F*&%#*.

  7. I never comment on anything related to politics, except to say, I have never seen so many people behaving so badly, as I did this year. And it’s enough already. Mother fuckers!

  9. Oh Lisa you are so wrong. Don't you know that according to the Right we are in muck up to our chins because of our hedonistic desires? It's over and not even God cares anymore about America.Time to flee to a foreign country like
Canada Or that just means more pot for us! Shame on me. I did not say that

    1. Sherry-I happened to read a set of comments, a long set of comments, on a Washington Times article about businesses that are planning layoffs now that the President won re-election. Holy cow, what anger. Many were talking about moving to Costa Rica and Belize and I'm thinking "if you think small gov't and wide open free markets, shouldn't you be talking about moving instead to Somalia?" But I stayed out of it. They were riled up enough already.

    1. Maui, you wrote a brilliant blog post recap. I'm sorry I didn't comment there when I sneak-read it while I was on hold on a phone call at work. Well done, you! Factual and no gloat.

  11. My personal goal these next four years is to wear my affiliation more on my sleeve than I did the last four years. I am so thrilled that President Obama is the face of our nation for another term.

  12. No doubt Romney/Ryan would have done more harm for sure. (Notice Ryan did not give up his congressional seat & ran for Congress @ the same time as he was running for VP?). Love it that PA, WI, MI, MN, VA, NV, CO , NM, FL & OH all gave them the one finger salute.
A real life big fish/little fish scenario. I'm glad Romney's 47% comment went public- it shed light on the real Romney. President Obama is not perfect (get us out of Afghanistan NOW & cut the cr@p w the Drone bombing)- but at least he did not grow up w a silver spoon in his mouth. He's lived through hard times & struggles, and that matters when it comes to compassion & funding programs that help people.

    Romney won the confederacy.

It has been fun watching the GOP & Fox pundits slack jawed over all this.
    Americans love socialism!

People knew who they were voting for & against.

    1. Fran - Some days I get so frustrated that I wish there was still a Confederacy. The "Red States" are still the most anti-labor, anti-civil rights, anti-separation of church and state states in the nation. And what has it gotten them? The jobs that they attract often pay less than they would if they were in union shops, they've led the way in voter suppression and they rank lowest in education and health care. It's sad.

  13. I just read an interesting article that said "We are the ones we've been waiting for." That was something President Obama was saying back in 2008. Yet we expected him to lead all the change. This time WE will be doing the leading. We've given the president a mandate for change that will make it a lot easier for him to fulfill his promises of "hope and change" to us. He always said he could not do it alone. I'm thrilled that we've finally not only got his back, but we're clearing the path ahead, as well.

President Obama. It's easy to say.

  15. Up here in the (not yet) Great White North, we're waiting for a huge influx of political refugees from south of the border, eh? I actually saw a newscast (Texas? Arkansas?) wherein the anchor brought up a helpful map of the fastest route to Canada! It was *not* The Onion! ... though there was quite the tongue-in-cheek happening, and somebody off-camera hooted with laughter ...

I keep coming back to one thing, bottom line -- it's instinctive; I trust this: the love that President Obama shares with his wife and daughters. The one other head of state I've seen this with in my lifetime (I was juuust too young to recall John F. Kennedy) was one of our prime ministers, Pierre Trudeau. Yes, his marriage went belly-up, but he was the most astonishing father to his three boys. They flat-out adored one another; the love was always, everywhere, evident. Trudeau had his political failings ... but there was something about that unabashed love that said to me, "Sanity. Balance."

I feel relief ... like I started breathing again last Tuesday eve!

    Thanks, America xo
